Emotions Run High on Eve of NH Primary

You're the wave, and I'm riding it," Sen. Barack Obama, the new Democratic front-runner, told several hundred voters who cheered him in 40-degree weather after being turned away from an indoor rally filled to capacity. Obama has been drawing large, boisterous crowds since he won the Iowa caucuses last week, and a spate of pre-primary polls showed him powering to a lead in New Hampshire, as well. Clinton runs second in the surveys, with former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina third, and the former first lady and her aides seemed to be bracing for another setback. At one stop, she appeared to struggle with her emotions when asked how she copes with the grind of the campaign but her words still had bite. "Some of us are ready and some of us are not," she said in remarks aimed at Obama, less than four years removed from the Illinois Legislature.

Two-quarterback system not the answer for Tech

Something's gotta give. As innovative, intriguing and successful as Virginia Tech's two-quarterback offense was late this season, it's difficult to imagine the rotation thriving throughout 2008.

Not to blame Thursday's 24-21 Orange Bowl loss to Kansas solely on Sean Glennon or Tyrod Taylor. Far from it.

The Hokies' defense failed to stop the Jayhawks with the game in the balance during the final three minutes; Josh Morgan dropped a sure first-quarter touchdown pass at the 3-yard line, and despite a pre-game warning from teammate Chris Ellis, the field goal protection unit allowed a blocked kick that derailed a third-quarter comeback.

Much ado about next to nothing

The BCS championship game was cancelled. The Top Ten was declared a tie. The kingdom fell into chaos and reverted to the bowl system and arguing. It was a return to the dark ages of football. Taz and Wile E. retired to a life of kings. Dark ages? Junior sprang to his feet and flapped about. He tossed acorns pensively. What Dark Ages? Uncle Foggy, the BCS championship game is in a couple of weeks. How does this story really end? Leghorns comb swelled with pride. You are getting, I say, you are getting too sharp for me Junior. In the end all of the teams were exposed. The sporting public saw through the hype. They could see every flaw in every team. No one looked much better than any other, regardless of uniforms. Then why are OSU and LSU playing in the championship game? They arent as ugly naked as the other teams.

Minister: PNA presses to get control of Gaza crossings

Afterwards, Israel closed all the crossings in Gaza due to the absence of the pro-Abbas forces which used to take control of security at their side of the crossings.

"If we got the approval, this means we can directly and quickly intervene to lift the siege on the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip and try to restore the things to the previous condition," al-Maliki said.

The deposed Hamas government, which still rules the Gaza Strip, refused to comment on al-Maliki statements. "We can't comment as long as the plan of restoring the crossings' control is not presented to us," spokesman Taher al-Nounou said.

"If this issue was put before us, we would carefully study it to secure the opening of the terminals," al-Nounou added.
