And Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels called Wynn one of the key architects in the U.S. Conference of Mayors' effort to "change the (climate change) debate in our country." Wynn's work on the national stage has shown that he can be a bold, engaging leader. But that guy rarely shows up at City Hall, according to several sources with close knowledge of the inner workings of Austin politics. Here, he is the cheerleader-in-chief for our young, hip city, and voters seem to love him for it. Wynn, 46, was re-elected in 2006 with 78 percent of the vote and continues to generate huge favorable ratings in internal polls. Here, he's not one to get his hands dirty in policymaking at City Hall. His focus is on making a name for the city, not making the $2.5 billion enterprise tick.
